Norway

Feeding in Norway.

In Norway  the growing season is only 165 days, so we can not grow indian corn and other feeding types to our cows. Mostly we use silage in round bales, but more and more farmers are building bunker silage because it’s cheaper, you can get very effective equipment and you also got a good quality on the silage.

The cows and production

In Norway there is almost only NRF cows (Norwegian Red), that’s a cow who is crossed with some old breeds and fits good with the Norwegian agriculture.

It milks 6541 kg milk per year, 3, 33 % protein and 4,20%  fat in average.

Diseases in Norway.

Because of the climate, long distance between the farms and small herds we don’t get many contagion diseases, but we have some production diseases like milk fever, mastitis, grass tetany and hoof diseases.
