Production

Milkproduction:

The protein and fat contents in the milk have to be delivered in the ration.  The fat content in the milk is calculated depending on the energy a cow gets. The milk-protein is calculated with the useable protein in the food. If there is too much fiber in the feed it confines eating and then production goes down. If there is not enough fiber in the feed, pH of rumen goes down and then eating capasity and production goes down too. Too much fiber effects that cow eats less and then risk of ketosis grows and production goes down. If ration includes less fiber, fat percent goes down.

The influents of the ration to production is very high. It’s very hard to find out what is the effects of minerals in a ration to the minerals in the milk because every farmer has his own gaol. But we find out that the structure of the ration has the biggest influents on the exploitation of the minerals. So when there is not enough structure in the ration it will go very fast trough the cow and she can’t use the minerals. And when there is to mush structure the cow is not able to eat enough food to produce a lot of milk. So it always looking what’s happening and what must I change.

What a cow needs to produce one liter of milk:

Milk - Fat content  (%)

Energy in the food(MJ)

Milk - Protein content (%)

useabel crude protein in the food (g)

Lactation

A cow doesn't give the same milk amount during the whole lactation. The first 6 weeks after the calf is given birth the milk amount is increasing. Somewhere at week 6 there is a peak. After that peak the milk decreases even if the cow is fed properly. It is very important to adapt the feeding of the cow on the lactation curve. Lactation adjoins more about energy than minerals.

If you don't feed the cow properly:

  • The milk performance of the cow decreases.
  • She loses to much weight.
  • She gets too fat.

Breeds

we figured out that every breed of  cow’s have the same connection between ration an production. Only some breeds can give more milk whit less of concentrates. So if you want to change you system of feeding it can be a option to change the breed of cow’s. For example we see that a organic farmer used Jersey cow’s because the produce whit a very low cost price. And they can handle a ration white out concentrates. And still give a lot of milk. The Holstein cow have a very high feed efficiencies. So almost all the food you give them they use it to produce milk ore to keep in good condition. This are the biggest different we discovered.
