-18800 sheep farms with about 1 million sheep
-1,04 million ha cultivated area
-We use about 63% of the arial as greenland
-We use about 32 % as arable land
-3,9 % of the arial is used for organic farming
-A Norwegian dairy cow gives approximately 6115 liters per year.
Manure storage:
In former times we used the room under the cow stable as a manure and slurry tank but nowadays when you buildt a new stable it's common to build a trank outside. This is not so expensive and got a better capacity.
Manuring machines:
To bring out the slurry to the field we use a tradisjonal slurry-tank from 3 -15 cm3. This is most used “blad-spreder”, but we alsov hawe other ways to take bether ceare of the minerals. An example is other systems that use DGI (Direkt ground injection - Norwaegian system). And fore the manure with mutch stra from kompost we use a manuare caster.
Effects on ground water
In Norway it is forbidden to spred the manure from the last of october to the first of april. (Never when its snow and freezing ground). When we do it that way we stop much of the run-off. And the farmer has to plough down the manure latest 24 hours after spreding.
There is also forbidden to spread manure to close to open water, then the run-off minimilized. In earlier times we had some problems with to much nitrogen run-off from from the cultivated land to the rivers, ground water and lakes. This was a big problem for the fish bekose it was to much alga growth and this take all the oxygen from the water sow the fish couldn’t breath and die. But now when we have this regulations it is a much better environment for the fish.
