Manure storage
If you want to build a new storage room, it is important to consider what kind of a storage system you will choose, what kind of manure you have and how large storage room you need.
Storage system:
- You can build a storage with or without cover, under the ground or under a stable. Open storage isn’t good, because it collects rain water and there is more evaporation of nitrogen.
- The most common storage is lagoon where you can store slurry or urine.
- Manure pit is also common storage system where you can put hard manure with straw and feed waste overs.
Production of manure:

Hard manure with straw needs another kind of storage. Hard manure needs a storage outside and it is possible to use an own machine for pressing. Hard manure with straw needs a storage with concrete walls and floor, when it is near by stables. You can store hard manure with straw on a field and you don’t need a storage with concrete walls and floors.
How can you avoid lost of minerals?
One time into two weeks mix up the slurry for bring air inside. Minerals are easier form for plants.
Manure need air (oxygen) into the storage.
Digestion is better then as putrefy. Putrefy start into the storage when there is an shortage on oxygen. This in combination with hard manure with straw give better results into the Dutch farming.
