Materials
Litter Material:
The litter material keeps the laying area dry and soft. The cow feels comfortable on soft surfaces, therefore it is possible to improve too hard laying areas with a lot of material. The most common litter material is sawdust. But also straw, peat or other similar materials are possible. Litter material can be used also on rubber floors,
Bottom material:
In most cases the concrete floor is the base of every box. But since this is far too hard for the cows, there has to be other materials on it.
Those can be special rubber mats or a special construction that allows to use a lot of litter material, like straw or sawdust. But also sand can be used.
Construction materials:
Most of the time galvanised iron is used for the seperation bars and neck rails. But this features can be also made out of wood. The neck rail can be out of strong synthetic material (flexible) too. For the knee rail rubber is used most of the time. Most important is that there are no sharp edges where a cow can get hurt.
