Laying boxes

Due to special constructions the cows can lay down only in one way. The advantages of this systems are that less space is needed, the cows stay cleaner than in a deep-straw bedding area and less litter material needs to be used.

Today there are a lot of different types available, but the main construction is always the same. Also the materials which are used as litter, surface or seperation bars can be various.

Most important for the laying areas is that they are as soft as possible!!

If you want to know if  boxes are soft enough, you can test it by your self with the knee fall test.

The way to do that:  Stand in the box on the mattress and let yourself fall down on your knees. If this is painful you have too hard boxes.
