Austria
Common information
The agriculture in Austria compared with the Netherlands is very extensive. Because of the many mountains we have 19, 8% unavailable land.
Our typical breeds are the “Simmental”, the “Holstein” and the “Pinzgauer” as you can see on the right side.
Structure in feeding
The Austrian farmers usually feed silage, maize silage, concentrate, minerals and hay for the structure. There are also many farmers who don’t feed any silage because they make a special cheese or the fields are too steep to make silage. Conventional farmers are not allowed to feed more than 60% concentrate, at Organic farms the limit is 40%.
Quality of milk
In Austria the milk production per cow averages 6.507 l with an average fat percentage of 4, 18% and an average protein percentage of 3, 41%.
