Situation in our countries
Watersupply in Austria:
About 30 years ago, it was common in Austria, that you have only one big water basin outside of the barn. they let the cows two times a day out to the basin for drinking. Now you can find at each farm a water supply in the barn. But the most of the Austrian farms have a tie-up stable, so it is common to use the water buckets.
Watersupply in Finland:
In most of the stables in Finland are used drink cups because there are also more tide up stables than free range stables. All framers have their own water well or one leak so there are no costs for the water use. Sometimes there are very cold winters like -35 degrees, so then water is very cold or even frozen. All farmers have built pipes from a well to a stable one meter deep so water will not freeze in pipes. Pipes only in a free range stables may be frozen because there are less cows in one square meter, so less heat is produced..
Watersupply in the Netherlands:
The are different water supply systems in Holland: One level system, Big drink basin, Drink cupsThe most used in free range stables is a big drink basin or one level system. In tie-up stables are used drink cups and there is mainly one cup per two cows. In Holland there are not so very cold winters, only 2 or 3 times in ayear water basins or pipes are frozen. So because of this it is not necessary to warm water.
