Protein
Another way to earn more money is to try to get more protein in the milk. For one kilo of protein you can get about 5,5 euros. In Norway you get the normal price for protein up to 3,2%. For one kilo milk is around 0,5 euros. If you have a higher protein-percent then you get 0,102 euros more for every 0,1% protein, for each kilo milk. For getting more protein out your cows you have to find a protein stimulating concentrate. An option to get more protein out of your cows is to feed with wheat. Most of the time the protein is taken up by the cow, and you get more money for one kilogram milk. But it’s not good to feed them with too much protein. If you do that, they may not use all off it, and throw the protein out of the system through the manure. A way to watch if the cow is using all the protein is to take a urea-test of the milk. In Norway is measure by mmol/l and in Holland by mg/dl, 3-5 mmol/l is the same as 19-31 mg/dl urea. If the urea-score is too high measure, you can putt more structure in the ration, to make it lower.
