Breeding
A farmer breeds his animals so that he gets the animals that he wants for the future.
If he wants cows that give much milk, he crosses cows and bulls, which have a good score on this quality.
You can find scores like this in many different qualities like; strength, milk-quality: fat- and protein percent. The farmer can do this with Holstein-cows, or he can also chose another cow-breed.
In Netherlands, the most common breed is Holstein.
In Norway, Norwegian Red Cattle is the most common breed. This is a crossbreed which has been made to match the Norwegian demands.
We have also crossbreeds with:
Brown Swiss:
Fleckvieh
Groninger Blaarkop (Groninger cow with a blaze)
Jersey
Montbéliarde
