The grass from Norway | |
Differents between Norway and the Netherlands
The feeding is quite different from Norway to Netherlands.
In Norway we feed mostly with wet grass (silo) or hay, and concentrate.
In Netherlands we mix different types of food like; grass (different), corn and concentrate-replacement (rest products from the human food-industry).
(In Norway they can’t keep corn because there are not enough sun-hours.)
In Norway it’s normal that a farmer mows his grass and bring it in at the same day.
In Holland the most farmers mow their grass and wait for two or three days to dry it before they putt it into the silo. Then the grass has more dry-material, and structure, and the cows eat more of it, because they won’t get full of all the water. The grass will have a better taste and stay better if you put some acid in it. In Norway this is usual. This isn’t usual in Holland, because when the grass isn’t wet, it tastes good without acid.
