Influence of weather
Before spreading manure, it is very important to consider the weather. For example the wind and temperature have an effect to evaporation and smell, and raining has an effect to leaching. You can’t spread manure also, when it is too warm weather, because the grass can damaged.
It is forbidden to spread manure when the ground is under the snow or when it is very wet. The EU regulation set up dates in each country when farmers can start manure.
The best time to spread manure is when the ground is melted and dry, because the minerals don’t leach to the ground and surface water, cultivate is easier and working is faster. A good situation to apply manure is when you have at least one dry day before and after applying. If you don’t have a good weather and you have to apply manure, it is better to use less manure per hectare and maybe more times than when it is dry and good weather. You can also try to make your fields more dry with open-ditch and pipe drains.
We have asked for the farmers what is the best weather for manure.
When you manure wait before the field is dry enough that there won’t be tracks from the tyres. Manure need to stay about six weeks on the ground before it is available for plants.
Winter time and areas without plants gives more lost of minerals. So, it is better to till the field after winter.
